After some verbs, we can use a gerund or an infinitive without changing the meaning, 'begin', 'continue', 'intend', 'prefer', 'start', etc.:When he read the note, he started laughing.When he read the note, he started to laugh.After some verbs, we can use a gerund or an infinitive but the meaning changes. These include 'forget', 'mean', 'regret', 'remember', 'stop', 'try', and more:I stopped to read the newspaper.I stopped reading the newspaper.
